5 Reasons Why People Don’t Visit Your Blog {Lifestyle}

I visit a fair amount of blog posts daily.  I like reading blog posts that are about what I am interested in to help me improve my life and to inspire what I blog about. The following is what bugs me about blog pages, from least to most important.  Of course, this isn’t an extensive list, but it’s good to keep these things in mind when you are dealing with your own personal blog.

  1. Visual
    1. When you pick your blog design, make sure that your blog is visually appealing. White text on a dark background, no matter how trendy it seems, is hard on the reader’s eyes, and they won’t be able to read your blog much.  Make sure that your font is at around 12 point to ensure the text is a good size for the reader to read.  Finally, make sure your blog isn’t too busy with too much add-ons and plug-ins.  A clean, simple page (that isn’t too boring) is right to keep readers coming back.
  2. Not Well Written
    1. What I find annoying with a blog is a great topic, eye catching photos, and a great blog design, only to find out that the blog post content isn’t well written. I am not looking for master’s degree in creative writing, but I am looking for writing that is smooth and isn’t full of slang or profanity.  Both of those make the writer look not too educated, personally.  Also, make sure you run that spell check!  Spelling mistakes is something that can be easily avoided.  Before you post, make sure those simple grammar mistakes are not there.  SEO is a great way to ensure that those are not there. Adding a bit of your personal thoughts and life will have the readers relating to you and coming back for more.  Finally, make sure it is not too long (or too short!).  There is nothing that makes me leave a blog post than opening a blog and seeing an unending amount of text.  It’s best to keep it from 300-1,500 words.
  3. Not Mobile Friendly
    1. Since we do not have wifi at home (long story), I do 99% of my blog reading on my phone. A lot of blog readers read on their mobile devise too, whether it be on the phone or a tablet.  A website that isn’t mobile friendly is an easy way to not get readers!  Also, make sure that your plugins aren’t taking over most of the page.  A reader’s mobile online reading is very limited, and extra junk on the page takes away reading space.  It gets annoying quickly, and the readers will leave and not come back.
  4. Too Many Ads
    1. I get so annoyed when I go to a blog and there are too many ads on the page. I can’t read the blog smoothly without being interrupted by a slow loading a—it interrupts my thought process and I lose interest.  This is disappointing as a reader, especially if I am genially interested in what you have to say!  I understand that you are trying to make money with your blog, but too many ads will ultimately lead to less people reading your blog.
  5. Pop Up Email Subscription (or ads)
    1. This is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to blogs. I can’t even see the blog post without being bombarded by a pop up ad demanding that I sign up for emails from the blog. I haven’t even read my first post—why would I subscribe to the whole blog?  I can’t even make up my mind if I want to read more from the blog.  Just as annoying are blogs that has this pop up right in the middle of the post I am reading.  I am submerged in the blog when I am rudely interrupted by a pop up. This breaks my concentration and, sometimes, I lose interest and end up skimming the rest of the article or levain the blog all together.  I hate all pop ups and I know others agree.   I am hoping this fad ends soon.   I don’t blame you for wanting people to subscribe to your blog (who doesn’t want constant readers?) But perhaps have a spot at the end of the blog post where people can sign up if they want to, or have the pop up at the end of the blog post.

If you notice, a lot of the annoying aspects mentions can be easily corrected.  If you have regular readers to your page, it might be helpful to ask them what they like and what could be changed or improved on your blog page.  You want to make your blog the best it can be for your readers!
